Reviewer: Rowena Lim Lei Synopsis: Review: In this series, we see changes in several main characters. Tenchi is a bit more assertive, which is an improvement over his usual wishy-washy self; Ryo-ohki can now transform to a spaceship and a giant mecha Ryo-ohki, she is also Sasami's pet rather than Ryoko's ship; Kiyone, however, takes a 180-degree turn for the worse. Kiyone used to be very sensible and capable, but now she's totally useless and manipulative. She can't seem to do anything right, which puts her near Mihoshi's league. The difference is, Mihoshi is amusing while Kiyone is not. The others characters remain pretty much the same as their previous incarnations in Tenchi Muyo and Tenchi Universe. There are a couple of really funny episodes that had me laughing my b*tt off, but things do get serious in the later eps. The art and animation are very good and consistent in quality, although quite different in style from the other Tenchi incarnations. There's a good helping of action both in space and on earth. There's also markedly less sexy humor, making this Tenchi series the most wholesome one. While Tenchi in Tokyo doesn't really break any new ground, it's not a bad spin-off.
