Synopsis:
Up and coming idol star Ikumi Murase seems to have everything a girl could want -- beauty, fame, fortune, and even a handsome boyfriend! But not everyone is pleased with Ikumi's success. Akira, Ikumi's beau, is starting to resent the fact that she never has time for him. To top it off, Ikumi's jealous co-star Ms. Lieh wants to bring Ikumi down at any cost -- even if it means summoning an ancient demon.

Review:
Predictable is what would best describe Idol of Darkness' plot. More so if you've already been exposed to a lot of other hentai (or even non-hentai) anime. The moment the vindictive Ms. Lieh found the demon idol, I knew exactly what was going to happen and how it was all going to end.

Yet despite its clichéd storyline, Idol of Darkness manages to score some points with its attractive character designs and good pacing. There are no superfluous scenes, giving this title a certain tightness that a lot of hentai titles lack. Idol of Darkness's art and animation are of good quality, and are actually a few notches above popular works such as "La Blue Girl" and "Cool Devices". With regards to the sexual content, Idol of Darkness is very explicit. Nothing is hidden from view, and you'll see everything in their full uncensored glory. A dose of tentacle action is also provided for those who want it more hardcore. Although I'm not really a fan of tentacle sex, I find that Idol of Darkness's tentacle stuff is done with just the right touch. You won't get saturated nor totally grossed out (but then it could also be that I'm developing an immunity to these things). Characterization is sufficient. Ikumi, Akira, and Ms. Lieh are not complex characters (in fact I find them all quite transparent and simple-minded), but they are portrayed to the fullest -- each possessing a distinct personality and purpose in the story.

To sum it up, Idol of Darkness is a predictable title with equally predictable characters -- but it's done well enough that they can almost get away with it.
