P4A 2.4 Ghz
Jetway P4XFA
2x 256 Mb Nanya PC-2700 running at 266 Mhz
Geforce 2 MX 400
40 Gb Maxtor Diamond Plus
Windows XP Home Service Pack 2

Obviously, a slow computer by today's standards. Bought at early 2003. I've kept it running.

Athlon 64 3400+
1.5GB PC 3200 DDR ram
512 MB ATI Radeon X1600
500GB HDD

My game machine, thinking of upgrading eventually.

Well lets see here:

3.6 Ghz Pentium 4
3 gigs of PC4200 DDR2 Ram
620 Gigs of hard drive space
Geforce 7900 GT OC Graphics Card

Man, I should really play more games...

2.4 Ghz Pentium 4
1 GB of RAM
240 GB HDD
nVidia Geforce 6800 GTX

I'm thinking about upgrading it either mid-year or end of the year. When your machine is JUST exceeding the minimum specs on games, you know it's time to upgrade. :P

^Can I have your 6800 GTX? Please...

Can you still play anything so long as you have a 2 Ghz processor? I'm past my hardware enthusiast days. I don't know the difference between the performance of a single core versus a dual core. I mean, I'm familiar with the concept, but I don't know how much difference there is in real life...

We could arrange something after I upgrade, possibly. Whereabouts do you live?

My computer still runs things fairly well, but it's getting to the point where I can no longer crank up all the special effects and graphics ratings to max on games and still get decent framerates. :? I've never owned a dual core processor, so I'm afraid I can't speak on any differences between the two.

Then it seems the 2.4 Ghz P4 doesn't seem to be the bottleneck. That's nice. I've got a similarly clocked P4, although mine's an earlier version with a 533 Mhz Front Size Bus. I'm imagining you having an 800 Mhz FSB version. I don't really know the difference FSB has though.

I wanna get a ATI card rather than an nVidia, except of course the 8800. ATI cards traditionally have had better image quality - sharper images. However, I've heard ATI cards don't work well with Linux.

PS. I live at the other side of the Bastion of Imagination.

Let's see mine sure is crappy compared to others...but I don't play PC games so I'm alright I guess...

P4 1.59Ghz
512 MB SDRAM
NVidia Vanta
40GB Hard Drive
20GB Hard Drive
Windows XP Professional (SP2)

And that's from taking parts from other computers and making my own..haha...when I have the chance I would get more memory and a larger Hard Drive...a better graphics card can wait...again...I don't play PC games...only maybe some emulators like Neo-Geo...but that works fine so no need...

Well, its true that you really don't need much power if aren't gaming. Most programs run fine at 1.5 ghz, so you shouldn't have any problems. Must be nice though, for us gamers we just LOVE to spend money on making our comps super fast. Much to the disdain of our wallets.

Hm...Might as well put my specs on here:

Intel Core 2 Duo 6600 running at 3.02 GHz (originally 2.4 GHZ)
3 Gigs of DDR2 ram
690 gigs of HDD space
Nvidia 6800GT OC

That doesn't include the extra 3.4 gig P4 i had before switching out.

Front Size what? Sorry, I'm not much of a tech guru at all. I know enough about computers to work out whether my machine can run the games I want to play, and that's about it.

Well, that could be a problem then. The Bastion of Imagination has no ways in or out. :P

I have been thinking about upgrading to a dual core processor for a while now, how does it handle compared to a non dual core processor of comparable speed?

Holy O_O. That's one bad mofo.

Quad core processors are coming up. I don't know if they're worth waiting for, though, considering standards get revised, like, every six months. For the record, idk how much of an improvement multicore processors have over single core ones today.

I'm going to try Ubuntu Linux this summer.

Mmm, I would love to get a quad core, if it wasn't for them being pricey still. Hopefully they will come down soon. I have been putting off upgrading my comp for a while now, waiting as prices keep dropping, upgrading from my current 3.6 single core to a quad core would be fabulous.
