okey, here's the thing. my brother is having troubles with his computer. more concretely conecting to the internet. it seems that his TCP/IP connection has gone missing and I don't have a clue about how to start up a new one. also trying to figure out what caused it to disapear in the first place. think it might be something to do with the fact that I installed AVG on his comp for anti virus and it still has Norton on there. help would be very much apreciated.

This happened to me when I scanned with ad-aware, never using that again. I don't think AVG would be the problem since I have it and norton on my computer and there are no problems.

I fixed it by restoring my computer to before it happened.

Go to the Start menu > Help and support > Undo changes to your computer System Restore

you could also try this: Go on start and select "Run"

In the field. type cmd

Now, type ipconfig

Now it shows alot of numbers and such. You can also see your current IP and Gateway. If you know you're standar IP and the one in IPCONFIG show's a diffrent one. Then you can try

ipconfig /release then you do ipconfig /renew

so, this all summed up. (dont include the ' ' in the commands below)

click start and start up RUN.
Type 'cmd' in the field
now type 'ipconfig'
Followed by 'ipconfig /release'
and the end 'ipconfig /renew'

this has helped me when my IP was messed up :) It could work.

Also. you should not have 2 anti-viruses at the same time. It's diffrent from computer to computer how it handles it.

nope, neither one worked im afraid. on the ipconfig it said that there was an error in trying to renew the connection and that the reason was that there was no longer any contact with the gateway. (translating here ^^; ) any other ideas?

Does your brother use a router? Or does he connect the modem directly to his computer?

wireless router from d-link. tried checking from there the best i could and it seemed like the problem was from the computer and not the router.

Well, if plugging the modem directly into the computer doesn't help, then I'd say it could be a problem with the computer or even with the modem itself. That pretty much exhausts the limits of my technical knowledge though.

What do you mean his TCP/IP connection is "missing"? Do you mean that he's unable to connect to the internet at all or simply that certain TCP ports are blocked?

Also can his computer access the router or does that not work either?

well there's been a change now. before there was no TCP/IP connection, now there is one there but it says that it isn't connected (or something like that, kind of hard to both translate it from another language and go by memory) in effect, it registeres that there is a line out but wont go on it.

Have you had any luck fixing it yet Dark One? Sadly I m not any good with more advanced problems, but I do pride myself on being able to figure out simple things.

Okay, I'll use this thread to state my own software problem.
Years ago, when I was using Win98, an online shop offered the complete Wing Commander series for a ridiculously low price, so I bought it together with, of course, a joystick.
It all worked splendidly until I got a new computer with WinXP Pro. The joystick does not respond anymore. Since it has not yet been proven otherwise, I assume there is a driver problem (which for some reason had not emerged on the old system).
Now my joystick is a PC Flight Force (SV-240) by Interact. I searched the web but couldn't find the driver... at least not without having to become a member of some community. There were other links which kinda advertised the driver but in the end there was no file (or "download" button).
Could someone help me find the correct driver or tell me how to settle this affair in any other constructive way?

Have you tried using just the standard 4-button joystick settings in Control Panel?

That kind of works... well, kind of.
I left "Wing Commander" at my homebase, so I tried "Dawn of Aces II" (part of the "Warbirds" family). Steering seems pretty slow to me... it could be due to the kind of planes you fly (WWI types), but still it's odd. I'll see whether one of my acquaintances here has another dogfight simulator for further testing.
Still, I'd be happy to find the original SV-240 driver somewhere.
