------------------------------------ THIRD ROUND----------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gungrave OP "Family"

------------------------------------------VS-----------------------------------------------

Maria-holic OP "Hanaji"

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Family is a song composed by Tsuneo Imahori, and can be found in Gungrave's OST, an excellent soundtrack consisting of instrumental jazz, mellow blues, & great vocals.
Imahori is a gifted guitar player and composer that has been in the musical scene for more than 2 decades now, he claims his music has been influenced by musicians such as Bert Jansch, Frank Zappa (yes!!!) and Andy Partridge. His band Tipographica disbanded in 1996 after 10 years of jazzy works. His works as a composer have been found in several anime soundtracks including of course Gungrave, also Trigun, Hajime no Ippo, and has contributed tracks to Texhnolyze, Wolf's Rain, and Cowboy Bebop. Not to mention his work with Yokko Kanno's The Seatbelts (everyone here should know who they are!!!!) This guy deserves all my respect!
Gungrave is the tragic story of Brandon and Harry, two guys trying to survive their tough city by joining the local mafia and rising through its ranks. A story about loyalty, treason and friendship, carrying heavy emotional power

Hanaji is a song sung by Yū Kobayashi,a female voice actress from Japan, who has provided the voice for a long list of characters including Mariya Shidō from Maria-holic, Lala Gonzalez from School Rumble, Nice Holystone from Baccano! among many others. She has worked as magazine model and evidently, as a singer. Here is a link to herHanaji video, she has the looks but seeing her sing with that voice makes it creepy and annoying
Maria-holic revolves around a lesbian high school girl, Kanako Miyamae, who is scared of boys and breaks out in hives if a boy touches her. During her second year of high school, she enrolls in an all-girls school hoping to find a female romantic partner. However, her ideal candidate, Mariya Shidō, turns out to be a sadistic cross-dressing boy.

I'm going to steal someone else's words, I'll vote for Family because it is edgy. cutting. disquieting. nostalgic. jazzy. tense. like something out of the 1920's, to this year of now. casual. clever. devilish. hot. cool. aloof. straight. runs like a thin line, quick. upbeat. beatnick. clear, clairvoyant. left, right, up, down, sideways, everywhere.

Family is a decent song but it doesn't beat Hanaji's high-energy awesomeness this time.

Enough of the jazz and bring in the spunky gal rock! "Hanaji" wins this round for me.

The voice clearly does not suit her face.
That's not a bad thing but it sure is irritating.
