Another veteran member! What-ho, Storm_Shinobi - I used to be Takayuki Yamano! Anyways, if i recall correctly, weren't we quite strict on double-posting?
Most of my forum time is over on the Total War Centre forums, since i'm helping to make a mod for Rome:Total War (yes, that game's community is still going after all these years - come check us out - http://www.twcenter.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=251). They're generally cool, but people do get annoyed if you dig up a thread from 36 pages ago, and then start triple-posting.
Shameless self-advertising aside, I might check out Azumanga Daioh. I really loved the artwork of Lucky Star, though, plus Kana-chan's general otaku-ness, ridiculous hair, and =͜͜͜͜ -͜͜ =. facial expressions just make me smile (come to think of it, that's a rather good drawing of Kana-chan's face using only text, ne?) :lol2:

Well, in terms of artwork, style, and topics Azumanga Daiô has absolutely nothing in common with Lucky Star. Ab-so-lute-ly nothing. The artists even have different genders. What both series have in common is that they are exclusively about the lives of a number of highschool girls, with the exception of minor male characters. That is the sole reason behind the name of this thread. The fact that you liked Lucky Star does in no way indicate that you might like Azumanga Daiô - except if you like highschool girls as a genre in combination with slice of life in general. dbd_addict could as well have made a "Ghost in the Shell" thread and labelled it "This is not Patlabor!"
But Azumanga Daiô is easy to like. Imho it's hard to not like it.
It's considerably less whacky and the characters are less extreme in their attitudes and behavior.

Fair enough... but the fact that they are so extreme in their opinions is part of what makes Lucky Star so likeable - if you took that away, it might be rather... bland. Plus, you gotta have blue hair. :P

I rather like long, green hair. Like Meiô Setsuna's or Tsuruya-san's. But it's another case of something that looks good only in Anime and rather deterring in real life.

Maybe not for long hair, but short - have you not seen the new Scott Pilgrim movie? The main female character changes her hair colour every scene - she goes through green, blue and pink. Still looks totti. :P

You do realize that discussing personal taste will lead us nowhere. :D

But I watched the trailers... looks interesting. I'll mention it to my girlfriend.

Do so, it's good - half the soundtrack comes from the legend of Zelda. :P
Plus the main female protagonist is cute.
Back on topic though - I'll look at Azumanga Daioh, but I can't see it being as much fun to watch as Lucky Star.

It's not "fun" in the same sense of the word - it's more, like, "adorable" while having good gags. :D
In these terms Lucky Star is somewhat the other way round.
Like, "funny with adorable characters". Can't explain it well...

one day i came across an episode of AD at a friends and i began watching it and i did not find it funny anymore. perhaps 'adorable' is the right word. i do remember laughing a lot though... things change.

i do remember putting on an episode for a cousin way back when i was into it and she did not even make a 'meep'. she just turned to me and said, "i can see how some people would find this funny"... HAHA!
