I have added a number of security measures to the site, which will hopefully keep out the spam bots and such. To test it out I have made it so people can register without me having to confirm them. Thus, if you do see some spam, that's whats going on. (You don't need to report it, I will see it as soon as it comes up). Hopefully this will work, but who knows, those spam bots are crafty!

Well, a couple are still getting through and posting, but one or two a day is acceptable. I will try and find another security mod that will hopefully make it so that none of them get in anymore.

Looks like it's now an invasion of porn bots. :? *eyes the threads in General Discussion*

Yeah, I've run into a few. my only question is, (cussing coming) how the hell are the damn things getting in.

That's what I would love to know. They have to input the picture code and click a button that says they are human now (Which is supposed to stop a lot of spam). Somehow though, that still isn't enough, but all of them seem oblivious to the fact that I made it so that bots can no longer see the website field, and so all of them sign up without even accomplishing what they are supposed to be doing. No one seems to notice.

It's all very odd. I have no idea how they can't be people if they are inputting the visual code, but if they were real they would have a spot to put their website info, which they don't. It's all quite odd indeed.

Isn't it because PHPBB is pretty much open source? the random numbers are held in a database all the bot programmer has to do is get that database and have the bot cycle through those codes till it gets the right one.

I've been deleting them as I see them, and they are becoming more frequent so to speak, but hopefully Aaron has it all figured out pretty soon =)

Why not use e-mail verification? Works for my board.

Moonunit,

We are using e-mail verification.

Animedude35,

How many spam posts are you deleting a day? I am deleting about 2. If it's increasing I am going to have to either revert to approving people myself again or find another mod to stop them.

about 1-2 a day, from time to time actually, but it seems like every week I see at least 2-3.

I give up. Came to the site today to see 20+ spam posts from one guy. Since it is only slightly inconvenient to approve/disapprove everyone I have gone back to that system. Long story short, no more spam worries. One of these days I may find a mod that actually works at keeping out spam bots
