When I was a young teen, I was a loser. I didn't have much else to do but fall in love with anime and talk to other young teens about it in forums. As I got older, other young teens replaced the friends I had made, and I felt that it just wasn't my arena anymore. Lo and behold, I found a great forum with helpful members that are just a little older than the standard American anime fanatic. (Not to mention I can feel at ease when asking questions concerning 18+ material.) To all of you, howdy from FHM.

- Female
- Born and raised in Colorado, USA.
- Nineteen
- If I could choose, my last meal would consist of a smothered bean burrito and a small bag of hot cheetos. It wouldn't include bananas, bell peppers, or my father-in-law's julienne carrot salad.
- I wouldn't call myself a specialist in anything, but I'm still young! I've got time to finish school and be mid range, before I hit 35 and my bosses start thinking 'that's as good as it gets.'
- As embarrassed as I am to admit it, I have a hard time keeping my apartment clean. I won't make any excuses, I just hate doing it.
- My immediate future (I'm hoping) is in Court Recording. During which, I want to go to school for Japanese Language and Literature and interpret full-time.
- I'm a violinist and a pianist. Violin since nine and piano since five.
- PokeMon. I was swept up in the craze for the first 150, then afterwards it was Inuyasha, Rurouni Kenshin and the others in the adult swim lineup at the time. I've found I don't really care for shoujo stuff, though Fruits Basket was okay for a one-time and X was brilliant. I also hold a soft spot for Kaori Yuki.
- Animetric was the first in the google search for 'hentai reviews.' I've been using them for months now and only just found out about the forum. I intend on inquiring about old forgotten hentai titles that I'd like to see again, among other things.
- As mentioned, I like Kaori Yuki.
- Professional team sports and wrestling aren't great, but I guess it's a guy thing.
- I can always depend on FlyingHatchetMadness to be a unique screen name, and I guess it sounds pretty cool. Holla to whatever Juggalos might be present.
- I haven't decided what I want for my avatar, but I want to dust off the old Photoshop and GIF animator to help. Maybe Pikachu. It's cliche, but it's good to reminisce.

So there it is, a short summation of myself. Don't be too cruel now, I'm new. =)

No one here is cruel. Animetric is pretty much the only forum where I have never seen noob flamers.

Welcome, always good to see new members.

I wish I could play piano...

It still doesn't make you the youngest. :P2:

Uh, yes... I don't mean to dampen your enthusiasm, but it's common knowledge among scholars of Japanese language and culture that people who take up Japanese wishing to become interpreters are usually, not always, but usually, those who do it for the wrong reasons. I've known a number of these cases. Wannabe Manga translators are the first who give up because they seem unable to cope with all the non-related culture, literature, media, and history seminars.

Besides, learning Japanese takes a lot of discipline (or motivating teachers) since you are learning an exotic language from scratch, going back to preschool level, you need to sit down and practice a few Kanji every day just to keep in training, no matter how fluent you become. At least one year in Japan with good contacts to native speakers (as opposed to the foreigners gathering around language schools) is imperative, and eventually you might want to take a special exam to become a certified translator.

Last but not least, a translator's wage or salary is abysmal, unless you become a freelancer. In that case I advise you to make yourself known to the right companies early on. Two friends of mine, both highly qualified translators, have made it into the business with great differences in development.

Number one is a freelancer and works for Nintendo now and then, with other commercial translations to fill the gap. If there are assignments he can make $400 a day, but as a freelancer he also carries all the risks - the current crisis hardly allows him to pay his rent, so he does any odd job he can find in the meantime to make ends meet.

Number two has joined a company in London, translating all things related to Pokemon. She has a good contract and won't lose her job just like that, but despite all the fun she seemingly has she only earns a fraction of what a freelancer with the same level of expertise can earn. She can pay for her style of living, but that's it.

I must add that both are not certified translators, but they made level 1 of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test, which is a pretty powerful ally on your CV. They are both Japanese Culture Studies majors with a master's degree.
Most other translators that I know are only occasional translators whose actual jobs are very different, because they also majored in Business Administration or Tourism Management.

If you can bite yourself through difficult situations despite discouraging odds and workloads you are fit for the job.

Well, I hope you have other things to contribute... I like a wide variety of opinions.
All in all, Animetric is one of the best places to come to. It's a friendly community with reasonable and open-minded people who do keep their arguments civil. I recommend this place to anyone who has had it with overcrowded forums full of haters, spammers, flamers, and mobbers.

Welcome to the forums FlyingHatchetMadness! (What a name you've got there :P2:)

I'm glad you've found the hentai reviews useful and have made your way to the forums. I'm always here to help in finding those pesky forgotten hentai titles, so hopefully one of us will be able to help you in your search for whatever title you may be after :d^_^b:

We do have a rather level headed, older contingent of the anime fandom here at Animetric and it's always nice to welcome another such member to the fold. I hope you enjoy your time here and find it equally useful and insightful :gatsu:

I'm not sure whether the quality "19yo" fits into the category you just mentioned.
Unless you're saying that Anime is principally for kids.
Which you wouldn't, of course, because it's not true. :P2:

I would like to think (hope?) so. I'll give her the benefit of the doubt, she did join up after all :d^_^b:

Welcome aboard FlyingHatchetMadness!
um... You're 19 and you have a Father-in-law? Wow. Assuming I didn't misread that, you're very brave.

Hey! I know not all anime is for kids! Although, admittedly, there's precious little I won't watch with mine.
I still maintain that Akira is an important work and should be shown to all kids for its educational value. :P2:

The funny thing is, when I first started in the business, Central Park Media had just sent Urotsukidoji out to everyone who bought videos -including GROCERY STORES! It took nearly a decade to convince many stores that anime wasn't just porn. Then, after Pokemon, we had to switch tacts and remind the videostores that anime wasn't just kids stuff!

It's lonely as a woman around here... especially since bloodfairy can only be counted as half a woman due to her more complicated gender awareness. :0:-):

Haha I'm sorry but when I read this I just broke out laughing, but yes sometimes it just feels like lil ol' me. I've tried to get other girls to join, but I think the main page scares them away when they see all those hentai reviews *looks at aaron*.

Leck mir am Arschloch
(suck my asshole)

And with such gentle words I announce my partial return to the forum, after acquiring experience among exams, lazying off, Neverwinter Nights and becoming a BDSM Domme with a slave in charge. I must specially apologize to PunkDaddy since my translations have an intolerable delay.

Oh, and be welcome, Hatchet.
