Going to try and update the forum today since I have sort of failed to update it since the initial move to version 3. As such, I have to upgrade through a couple versions, 3.0.1 - 3.0.4 so things may get a tad crazy. Forum is backed up as of this post, and I may have to close the forum a couple times while it updates.

Wish me luck!

Edit: Well that went easier than I had expected. Update is complete, please post any problems you may find here so I can look into them. If nothing else, posting still seems to work

Anything new the layman wouldn't notice?

I don't think there were any real fundamental changes. There were a number of security/bug fixes and performance enhancements so things run smoother. Many changes of extraneous things like YIM, Jabber (whatever that actually is), some Private Message stuff and a whole bunch of other little things. Nothing terribly interesting sadly, but I can't argue with increased security which will hopefully stem the stream of non-activated members which has gotten to around 30 a day lately

Eh? What's this? Spam? Could this guy bcde095 be some sort of spam-bot? Because it's normally inactive threads I've posted in that get bumped when I see it. I notice because I leave the "notify me when a reply is is posted" box checked as an easy way to keep track because I check my e-mail at least once a day. Not often I get over here and see they haven't yet been deleted yet, though.

It's easy enough to get rid of them, the only hang up is how long it takes for me to check the site, which usually isn't long unless I am out or asleep. It is sort of annoying though, but at least it doesn't happen too frequently.

It doesn't. I just notice when it does because, like I've said, I leave notify me option checked when I post so that I can keep track of what I've been posting easily. I still get the email after you've clearly deleted the spam that triggered the email.

The forum has been updated from phpbb 3.0.4 to 3.0.5 Mostly bug/security fixes, but it should work faster (supposedly) and a couple other changes here and there. Nothing major that I saw though. Let me know if anyone encounters something strange on here so I can try and fix it

No wonder I couldn't access the boards earlier on

If there's going to be an update they should make it visible...like needed options and such we didn't know we needed...

It seems like once they create a main version (phpbb 1,2,3) they just look at tweaking the code and making various backend changes, leaving the useful items to the mods from third parties. Then, once they see what people like and don't like, they try to incorporate those items into their next new version rather than in the little updates every couple months. I'm with ya on looking for more substance to the updates though, but given it's freeware I suppose one can only hope for them to do so much for you.
