Hello everyone!

First, a disclaimer. I've been lurking and posting a bit, but was a bit hesitant to post an introduction because of the power of Google. I'd like to be totally forthright, but on the one hand I'm helping my friends launch an H-game and on the other hand, I'm trying to keep my day job. Forgive my coyness, but my day job enjoys selling stuff to young adults and kids. Even if I change jobs, the employment opportunities seem to be marketing to the tykes so I'm a bit paranoid! :( Hence, I won't be concrete about my name or personal details in the public forum. Porn/Hentai just has such a strong stigma...

Personally, I'm the type that is typically quite open (to the point of stupidity). Thus, my kids already know that they don't really want to play the game daddy works on because I've told them. They're in grade school, but I make sure they know about life in the real world. Or as real as the world gets in California.

I've been in the business of selling pop-culture for over a decade and I have sold anime and manga for a big chunk of that time. Meanwhile, I've got the entrepreneurial bug and so when my friends wanted to launch a game and start a company, I jumped on board. It's our part-time business that we work on after we finish our day jobs, but we're trying to make a really competitive and professional product. I'd like to say that this makes us quasi-pro (partially professional), but until we actually finish something we're pseudo-pro (falsely professional). :shifty:

I'm always been strangely trapped in the middle between professional and fan. To business associates (usually outside of the anime/manga industries), my knowledge and passion for the business makes me a fan. To REAL fans, I'm too interested in the business and not interested enough in the art and culture. That's the story of my life! I'm passionate about business, eating (hence I cook), watching movies, playing basketball, listening to music and my family. I don't buy ANYTHING that I don't have to other than food. With 3 kids, a wife and a mortgage, I have Netflix instead of a video collection, and a 27" TV with no cable. I'm also a late adopter, so I'll probably get my first bluray player when it hits $59.98. I'm still waiting for the PS2 to get cheaper.

Hmm... I was trying to be as interesting as 43217's intro, but I'm starting to bore myself about me. Anyway, I've enjoyed reading and participating so far and I look forward to much more to come. I'm sure we'll all get to know each other better over time.

Later!

Wow. Your job sounds quite challenging yet interesting as well. I hope you keep at it, since it sound like it's very hard. Welcome to the forums, PunkDaddy! :D

Your waiting for PS2 to get cheaper? The PS2?

Wait, wait, wait... You do mean the PS2, not the PS3, right? Because I don't think $130+tax for an all new MISB PS2 is all that out of line. (If I remember right they can also go for around 100 if you buy used from Gamestop.)

I can see wanting Sony to lower the price on PS3, though, as that's 50% of why I don't get that instead.

Welcome to the forum, though, PunkDaddy!

Yup. PS2.

I probably won't pull the trigger until a system gets close to $50 unless I'm trying to motivate the kids and made a bet. I used to measure everything in terms of "weeks of diapers" (~$20 back then). Now I just see every bloody dime as needed for somebody's college fund. I have only bought 4 CDs since 1994 and haven't downloaded music- and I like music more than anything except books. Thank god for internet radio. I try not to download pirated stuff because that puts my friends (and myself) out of business. If I like something, I'll pay for it. Even if I CAN get it free from the artist through connections. I'm a bit weird that way.

I WANT everything. I buy nothing. Denial is a familiar friend.

You, my friend, should receive a medal for your strength of will.

You've also pretty much killed any desire for me to have kids of my own.

While I ham up my sacrifices, truth be told, I don't miss it too much. My kids are a constant source of entertainment. Sort of like Discovery mashed with the Cartoon Network and put on fast forward. Crazy, intense, amazing. I do highly recommend kids, but they drastically change your life!

Wow thanks! I don't recall ever being called noble before! :D
Thank you for the luck. Gambaremas!

Welcome aboard!
So you're an expert in marketing and merchandizing... nice.
And don't worry about personal details, people who offer their real identities are pretty rare, that goes for Animetric, too. Besides, it doesn't matter who you are or what you own, you'll be judged by your wits and charm, or alternative entertaining capabilities, like... certain members whom I'll leave unnamed now.

Welcome to our little home away from home PunkDaddy!

It's always impressive to see people willing to go out on a limb to try and start up their own company, to make something from scratch and compete with major companies. And having a background, at least somewhat in the field (I don't know if you ever had work selling B-games or not, but you have with anime/manga and those are just a stones throw away) should be a definite plus for you.

Hopefully you'll enjoy your time on the forum and that game you're making will come together and be a real success!

Thank you sir! I'm already enjoying my time (perhaps too much ) in your home! I doubt I will be as prolific (or awesome) as some of your members especially the ever-present ones who've already welcomed me so nicely on this thread. However, I'll try to contribute in my own quiet, if overly academic and verbose way. ;-)

Thank you all for the encouragement!

Please excuse my late curiosity, but inhowfar are you a "PunkDaddy"?
Are you a daddy of punks or are you a daddy that happens to be a punk?
What is a punk anyway, by southern Californian definition?

Hehehe. :)

Well, let me start with the definition part. I'm using multiple definitions here: 1) young thug (although in this case not strictly literal, more like an aggressive, intellectual brat), 2) one who likes 'punk' music (Sex Pistols, Green Day, The Offspring, Iggy Pop, etc.), 3) One who wants to challenge the establishment in a brash and obvious fashion. I'm not sure I'm representative of SoCal attitudes, but these are my definitions.

As for PunkDaddy, that also has multiple meanings:

= A daddy who is a punk. Although mostly between the ears. No tattoos, no piercings, no mohawk. Just 3 kids by 31. 8)
= A daddy of punks
= The daddy of all punks- this being in a grandiose sense where I arrogantly assume my attitude is the fountain head of punk attitude and the guiding force behind the intellectual challenge to the establishment. Again, in this case, primarily directed at established game companies.

I dream big. Now I just need to work hard enough to realize a bit so I don't become like the ex-hippies in the 80's... ;-)

If anything seems vague or unclear, I'd be happy to elaborate.

Uh... well, since you hopped on every conceivable definition bandwagon it's more like an "everything or nothing" question in terms of "being clear". But I think I'll drop the question since your username seems to be a matter of a greater, highly subjective, life philosophy, most likely rather incomprehensible to outsiders. :P
