I have been having a problem or the last few weeks and I am not sure what the problem is. Whenever I play a video file, be it an AMV, anime episode, etc., half the time I get an insane pink color to go along with it. When I use WMP, half the time the video has pink stripes across it, when I use VLC player the entire video has a pink overlay. I am not sure if my video card is owned or if some other problem is occurring, but it has never happened before and has be baffled. Wondering if anyone has had a similar problem and or knows what the heck is up. It is getting rather annoying!

Thanks!

It's the video codecs, I dunno which one, but usually you can find those codec packs and install them, and everything should clear up. I recommend ffdshow, or cccp codec pack. Just look it up on google, and you'll get links to it.

Some people codec pack sucks because it will installl codecs you will probably never use, but I say, it's saves me the trouble of installing each codec one by one.

I have those codecs. These are files which used to play fine, and now everything is coming up with these damn pink things. Maybe one of them got screwed up and I should reinstall it?

You're using WMP in Windows and VLC in Linux?

If that's the case, the problem shouldn't be software.

No, I am just using VLC player in windows. When I stated Counter-Strike today I initially saw a pink checker design at the bottom of the screen, but then it went away. I don't even know anymore! Maybe it's my graphics card, but it's fairly new so that would make me sad.

Have you tried downloading the latest drivers for your video card? Sometimes when Windows does its automatic updates, it screws up something with my drivers, and I need to reinstall them again.

Ya know what, I think I will reinstall them. They haven't had a new driver release lately, but I remember having a windows update recently.

Try swapping video cards if the driver update doesn't work.

Well I went ahead and reinstalled the drivers and codecs, which seems to have worked. No problems as of yet, which means I hopefully wont have to replace my graphics card soon, yah!

Thanks for the help everyone!

The Black-purple checker board in Valve's Source Engine games is a common problem. If you get one in the game. It's mostly an out-dated graphic card/driver. Or a missing Graphic file from the map/game.

Also. Your PC gets alot of dust inside it over time. so open your cabinet and blow the dust out. It can solve problems such as, start up problems and automatic shut down problems.

keke..

Do you think it may have been you video colors messed? Recently my video colors have been setting themselves to gamma -8 (default is 9) after I restart my computer, which turns videos all pink. I think it may be a virus of some sort...
