I've recently acquired a PS2 and want to make up for the last six years of PS2 gaming. Please suggest games I should buy. I'm open to all genres, though I'm really, REALLY, hunting for the RPGs.

I already have:

FFXII
FFX-2
Metal Gear Solid 3: Substance
Gran Turismo 4
Resident Evil: Code Veronica
Tekken 5
Ico
Shadow of the Colossus
Valkyrie Profile: Silmeria
Ace Combat 0
Shining Force EXA
Tales of the Abyss
Soul Calibur 3
NBA Live 07
Dark Chronicle

Planning to buy:

Xenosaga series
Front Mission 4(5 if it ever gets released)
Ridge Racer V
Dead or Alive: Hardcore
Suikoden 3, 4, 5
Grandia 3
Okami
Kingdom Hearts series
Tales series
Wild Arms Alter Code F
Legaia 2
NBA 2K7(or 2K8, if it gets released for the PS2)
Dark Cloud
Virtua Fighter 4
FFX
Resident Evil series
Silent Hill series
Zone of the Enders series

You got pretty much all of the games one should buy for the ps2 I do have a few aditions.

One God of War 1 and 2 great game, if you want a fun button masher with an interesting story line. Next is the .Hack series of game. they're action rpgs and fall into the traps of repeative game play and on button pressing with dated graphic but they're still really good story line and likeable chacters. Next has to be Shadow hearts, it play like an old fashion rpg but it have unquic characters, interesting sotry line, and a good deal fo required strategy to beat. Lastly one rpgs, I'd have to say is Disguya 2 again the graphics aren't the best but it has none of the things wrong with it that most modern rpgs do. Also it's pretty funny. Lastly is Geutar heroes, if you got the $80 you have to pick it up it is worth the money, it is one ofthe funnest games I've played.

On a side not you might want to skip Xenosaga II it sucks, mean they even messed up Kos-Mos's character design which is unforgivable.

Also I saw Grandian 3 on your list, I don't know is the same game as was onethe Dreamcast but if it is PICK IT UP NOW!!! That is an order! It is to date the best RPG I have ever played, and that is saying something. Do not pass it up.

Yes I know I could have edit my last post but oh well to late now.

This reminds me to get a list of all the games I have, and to post it somewhere....

I do have a list of games I need to buy, but it's on another pc, so i have to get it later... but I have alot of games in hand, espeically PS1 and PS2 RPGs...

Only the newest ones (from this year) that I haven't gotten around to buying yet because of money issues... I'll post a list later of what I have and what condition it's in (you'll be surprised)

I don't think its the same. Grandia 3 was only released just recently. Maybe you're talking about Grandia Xtreme?

Hmmm. Any games with a cult following that you could throw at me? The list seems pretty short. I think there are good strategy games on PS2.

There doesn't seem to be very many good 2D games on the PS2...

Added:

Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter
Shadow Hearts series
.hack series
Prince of Persia series
Stella Deus
God of War series
Legacy of Kain series

Star Ocean Till the End of Time is quite good and has a very fun battle system, a lot like Tales of the Abyss, add that too.

I will have to look up some of the others I have and post them a little later. I have a hell of a lot more PS1 RPG's than PS2, so my pickings are rather slim.

My recommendations

1) The Rachet and Clank series
2) The Jak and Daxter series
3) Midnight Club 3 (Racing)
4) The Grand Theft Auto series

None of these are RPGs, but they are awesome

Its hard to describe 1, 2, and 4, since they are a mixture of different genres.

FYI: Three major figures who developed the first Tales game, Tales of Phantasia, went on to found Tri-Ace (the "three stars"), the developer who brought us Star-Ocean and Valkyrie Profile - so the Tales series and the Star Ocean series are like brothers. In any case, Motoi Sakuraba does the music for both developers, and he's my favorite video game composer.

I was really looking forward to getting a PS2, to finally play all the great mainstream games, like FF and Metal Gear, but what also made the PS1 such a great console was the large number of cult hits. It hasn't turned out that way for the PS2 yet. The games do seem to be better polished, but they're much thinner or shallower than PS1 games. Where're all the 2D games? I think everybody's been trying to imitate FFX in this generation.

Thanks for the platformers. Is Midnight Club better than Need for Speed?

I have played NFS Most Wanted and I think Midnight Club 3 is better.

Wow - I forgot to put GTA in my list. I just finished San Andreas this morning, actually.

Added:

GTA series
Okami
Star Ocean
Armored Core series
Tomb Raider

Pending:

Ratchet and Clank
Jak and Daxter

Sorry dudes, I've had enough of deformed animals in Crash Bandicoot.

On another note, it really was a sad day when the team that made Xenogears and Chrono Cross left Squaresoft. People on that team eventually made Monolith Soft, but, as far as I heard, their products have been mediocre so far. Is Baten Kaitos alright?

I'd scractch off Tomb Raider if i were you, compared to most of the more recent franchises its hasn't aged so well though supposedly the most recent game was good the rest except for the first few were garbage. Or at least that's whjat I've heard.
