double release?

2 DVDs sold together in a package.... I think thats what hes talking about.

Mmm, not quite. It's an odd story.
When Grave of the Fireflies was realeased in Japan, it was shown in cinemas as a double feature together with Totoro, because it may be very emotionally demanding for some people. Totoro played the role of a lighthearted relief.
Hell, I cried over the book... good thing I was reading a photocopy and not the library's original.

I myself wasn't very affected by Grave of the Fireflies for some reason. I actually found it pretty boring.

Well, you said you liked depressive stuff. Maybe you're just used to it.
I'm not into depressive stories, so they keep their effect, just like caffein. :D

When the heck did I ever say that? I am usually the one opposing depression. Grave just didn't depress me.

Oh the vision of Japan war by North American and British T_T THAT is depressing

I think I wouldn't watch it again so soon (it's been 3 years I watched it), too depressing, yet very exquisit artwork from Ghibli. Only Ghibli I don't like is Gendo Senki.

in my opinion grave of the fireflies should only ever be seen once, i found that it was such a heavy emotional film that i didn't want to see it again, both because I didn't and still don't think i can view the whole thing in one sitting and also I belive that if I view it again it will dull my original impression of it. That's also one of the reason why i don't recomend it since i'll never recomend something that i can't view again.

also if i remember correctly Grave is not a ghibli film, I remember a friend telling me that although they used ghibli for the art that was the only thing they were involved with.

False, the director/screenplay is the second most prominent Ghibli director, Takahata Isao. The original however is a novel by Nosaka Akiyuki. While it's true that most Ghibli movies are usually from either Miyazaki or Takahata, they also have some novel adaptations such as this. And this does not make it any less Ghibli, since they have a huge triage to choose and adapt things.

The first time I actually watched Grave was like 3 (2 maybe?) years ago on tv (when I was 12) and I wasn't even affected by it back then. I watched it a second time this year just so I could rate it on ANN since I couldn't remember much.

Just a note for anyone yet to post a title: The end date for posting a title to be entered into the contest is the 15th of December. That will give me enough time to watch them all.

The one OVA I recommend is Soukyuu No Fafner ~Right of Left~
It is a 50 min prequel to the TV series. Look here for more info.

Huh? I could have sworn it was you who said something like that...
I could confuse you with someone else, but looking up "depressive" brings me nothing but these posts in this one thread.
Halucinations?

Okay, this is what I get for not logging in for awhile. I put up for oppinion Samuria X Trust and Betrayal. That is if no one beat me to it.

If so then I put forward Golden Boy
