Well it is time to get another contest going, except not really 8) What I mean is that this contest will not actually begin until the 14th, so that the other contest can end and so that I can post all my favorite AMV's before everyone starts in on it. Being a huge fan of AMV's, I decided I should try and expand my collection by seeing other peoples favorites that I may not be aware of, and thus finding those rare gems.

The goal:
Post AMV's in the AMV section and whoever posts the best one, aka my favorite, will win. Simple and no creativity necessary! (As to not seem "despotic" we will have voting on this and if it differs from my choice, I will figure out a second place prize.) All AMV's posted during this 1 month period are eligible for the contest.

Run Time:
1 Month, Ends October 14th at 11:59 PM. Should give plenty of time for anyone that wants to participate, and to those who may be interested in making videos for this contest.

Rules:
1) The AMV must only feature scenes from titles I have seen (Per my ANN anime list). I do NOT watch AMV's that include titles I have yet to see, or have not seen all of yet (I don't like to be spoiled).
2) General posting rules apply, so make sure you post it correctly or you will just create more work for me
3) No limit on the number of videos you can post, gives you more of a chance to win! However, I do expect you to say something about the video and why you like it. I don't need people just going to YouTube and posting every AMV they can find in hopes something is good and I will like it.
4) If you are posting a video with adult material in it that is fine, just make sure to make a note of it so people who don't want to see that know not to watch it. (Any Hentai title is fair game, as I have seen so many and rarely watch them for their stories, I do not fear being spoiled in that respect.)
5) Any AMV type is eligible (Romance, Comedy, non-English music, compilation, whatever else) as long as it follows the above rules.

The Prize:
First Place: Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex Season 1
Second Place: If we have a second place winner, the prize will be Spiral the Complete Box Set.

After I figure out a winner and see if we also have a second place winner, I will contact you and get your address/es.

Good luck everyone! I hope to see some gems come out of the woodwork!

The first place prize interests me greatly. I will have to hunt some good ones down.

One question. What is a AMV?

It's an

Anime
Music
Video

The stuff you find at AnimeMusicVideos.org,
usually in a way better quality than at YouTube or the likes.

And my statement/question:
As I understand from what you, acmurphy, say, it must be a video post.
Which is to say: if the video I'd like to propose is not on YouTube (or the likes) I either lose or I'll have to upload it myself. :?:

Edit:
To continue my asking:
The first or only factor deciding what video wins will be your personal tastes, right?
According to my experience with AMVs, funny videos have a large advantage over serious ones.
The funnies usually win at conventions if there's no genre distinction.
How will you manage this?

I would like to propose a parallel oportunity:
How about you choose the best comedy video and the best serious video of your liking?

very interesting contest!

i would think a serious one would be more of a "winner" as they have more of an effect on the viewer than comedy.

i imagine poor quality ones will be disqualified. ie. youtube crap.

Well, the easiest way for everyone to see it would be for them all to be posted on the site as a link to the video. Other than that, if these videos on on multiple other sites that require you to sign-up, like animemusicvideos.org, it is going to get difficult for everyone to see them. So yes, the best way is for everyone to upload them video via youtube or google video, or whatever and then link to them. I realize this will require some extra work, but as they say, nothing ventured nothing gained :)

As per your second suggestion, I don't think it is really going to be a problem. I am a fan of more serious anime music videos, the ones that have more emotional pull, so my like for them will offset the groups pull for comedy if we have a second place winner from the end vote.

Uh, have you defined a timezone?
We're a global community. :D
Right now, the 14th of September has already started between the Pacific date line and central Asia...

Arg! You people and being all over the world! I will post here when it begins, looking at getting some AMV's posted tonight before then. It is going to follow my timezone, so Eastern Standard Time here in the USA.

This is a message to everyone as some of you have misunderstood how this works: All AMV's should be posted in the AMV section of the forum. You should post them in the same fashion as if there was no contest going on at all, aka follow the rules already setup in that area. Do not post the videos here.

For example, when Wolfwood posts this correctly in the AMV section, he will make a new thread, as a Compilation Video (as it is for Tri-gun and Cowboy Bebop) and post it. If it was only for Coyboy Bebop, he would post it in the Cowboy Bebop thread that is already in the AMV section.

I hope this clears things up.
