GTO: Shonan 14 days

Shonan 14 days s a spin-off story of the manga GTO (Great Teacher Onizuka). It takes place directly after the Teshigara arc. After Eikichi Onizuka was shot by former teacher Teshigara, he was sent to the hospital. Shortly afterward he escaped, and then spent 14 days that no one knew about. Strangely enough, when he returned, a wanted poster appeared with a man that resembled very much like Onizuka. What exactly did he do during these 14 days? -Onemanga-
So why should you read this?
If you've read GTO before, and thought its prequels Bad Company and Shonan Junai Gumi were fun and still craved for more Onizuka greatness this is good news. Tohru Fujisawa is either thinking that his other recent works have not been as successful as GTO, or he finally gave in to the requests from the fans to bring back Onizuka.
Well, Shonan 14 days is got the same old GTO feeling, the humor, the crazy middle school kids, the bikes, the fighting...
but this time Onizuka is playing in his home field, Shonan, the place that saw him grow, setting for the older Shonan Junai Gumi, the manga that showed Eikichi and his friend Ryuji as crazy teenagers fighting biker gangs and rival schools, and of course their quest to lose their virginity.
The deal
After escaping from the Hospital in order to participate in a game tv show for teachers, Eikichi screws up with a very compromising statement, and sees himself forced to escape the media, and what better place than Shonan, his hometown.
Well, there, he soon meets a gorgeous girl that works as a tutor at a home for teenagers with dysfunctional households. He decides then that the best way to spend those two weeks is to give her a hand, and while doing so why not get his hands on her.
Some of the the kids have had very messed up lives and have some psychological issues going on, but the almighty Onizuka will try to save their hearts, again making use of his street smarts and this time even of his old acquaintances in town. If Onizuka was a legend already around Japan, he is a living God among biker gangs in Shounan.
The premise as one may notice is very similar to that of GTO, but it gets really interesting since there are also a few returning characters from the Shounan Junai Gumi times, including an old love interest, which is a nice touch. Also some characters from GTO make some appearances.
This one started being published last year (2009) around July, so far 22 chapters have been released and it's still ongoing.
I hope these 14 days last a while, and hopefully Fujisawa will make a great story out of it.

This would be my suggestion for all of you this year! Read it! And if you haven't read Bad Company, Shounan Junai Gumi and GTO, you might want to do that first!! They are all great works.
