I'm on the other coast, so if I go, I'll hit Anime Expo for a day or something. If I miss, this will only be the second time I didn't go since 1992 (and the first for which I wasn't hospitalized), so I feel a compulsion to attend even if I find it less and less interesting every year... Do you find yourself attending more for the people you are going to see at the con instead of for the convention itself or are you still able to keep your interest in the anime and the events?

Is it really expensive to travel from PR to the East Coast? If you can, Otakon can be a lot of fun. I hear nice things about other conventions, but I only have direct experience with Otakon (4 years of attending) and Anime Boston (attended first 2 years).

Of course, my track record makes me sound like I'm a HUGE anime fan, but in fact I'm more casual. As an industry guy, I exhibited at Anime Expo for 14 years, and Otakon for 3 of the years. This means my impression of conventions is less party and more exhausted numbness...

Yes, it's the one in Baltimore, so you can fly into Baltimore, Washington DC or even Philadelphia and take a train down.
I've only flown into Baltimore. It is a very enthusiastic crowd and they used to sell out, but I don't know how it will be this year...
