OK, so I have 2 hard disks:

1. A Western Digital WD1200BB-22GUA0, which is IDE

2. A Seagate Barracuda ST3120026AS, which is SATA

Now, the question. I cannot remember which of my drives corresponds to which hard disk... Is there any way I can tell in Windows?

Oh, and before somebody asks, both hard disks are 120 GB capacity, so I can't tell by how large each of the drives are.

Right click on any of your hard drives (i.e. C) and choose "Properties."

In the pop up window, choose the tab "Hardware."

Image

In this tab, it'll show you a list of the storage devices on your computer, including your two hard drives. Now select either drive and press the "Properties" button below. Then choose the "Volumes" tab in the window that pops up.

Image

There should be a "Populate" button on the bottom of that tab. Click on it and wait for a bit and the Volumes that are associated with this particular drive will be shown on the lower box (which has "Volume" and "Capacity.")

Image

Since you can tell by the device name which one is SATA and IDE, you can then use the above steps to figure out which volume is using the SATA drive, and which volume is using the IDE drive.

Thanks, spaz! I knew there had to be an easy way to do it, but I couldn't figure it out for the life of me. (How funny, I work with computers every day, but I hardly know anything besides simple word processing, web surfing and games. :P)

Oh good Lord, my mind must be dirtier than I expected... when I saw the topic's title I first read
"Question about Hard Dicks"

Oh, and Spaz, that background in those pictures of yours seems kinda interesting.

Too much time spent in the hentai section talking about disturbing and odd things I'd say

What a resolution... :o
Nice wallpaper... I didn't even know they existed in such sizes... or is it a work of your own?
Since I am already asking OT questions, would you tell me what
征服者 and 人口少女 are?

Yeah since my desktop is 1920x1200, it's hard to find wallpapers in that size so I took a Two Hearts picture I found and a few other images to make the background image and then combined the two.

Oh and "征服者" or seifukusha (conqueror) is the closest Japanese equivalent to "Dominator" that I could find. (Dominator is the name of my PC.) And 人口少女2 (Artificial Girl 2) is the name of a Bishoujo game made by Ilusion.

You call your PC "Dominator"???
Hm, I'd rather be the dominator of my computer (although it does not always work). :D
Why give names to computers and hard drives anyway?
Does anyone name their hammers or pencils??

But I like the term... I have such a plate in my room (rather boring story how I got it), it also reads "Dominator" and I keep it because it resembles my first name. 8)
I'll post pictures in Your Room.

I guess I'm a little nerdy in that sense . . . but hey I can't help it . . .

A related question to the hard disks. Is the Western Digital WD1200BB-22GUA0 (mentioned in my first post) able to be installed in this?

Reason why I'm asking is because I was told that the motherboard in question can't install IDE hard drives anymore, but that sounds like a load of bullplop!

That mobo has a single IDE slot which supports 2 PATA devices so yeah you can install up an IDE hard drive. The issue is that if you have two IDE optical drives, then you won't be able to install a third PATA device such as an IDE hard drive.
