I bought a new cable for my speakers so I don't need the headphones anymore.
Listening to the Pani Poni Dash soundtrack, and a few classic TV scores...

"We're ready to party, we're ready!"
"I hope you bring lots of spaghetti!"
"Come on in, come to the place where fun never ends!
Come on in, it's time to party with Garfield and friends!"

:D

Listening to Beirut now. They are a world music band. Recommended.

Probably not everyone's cup of tea but still a great video, very artistic too. And the song, well the song is just amazing.

I actually found it to be very good myself, I much enjoyed it! Thanks wolfwood!

Recently I got the urge to download the actual OST for Secret of Mana. (For those of you who aren't super nerds, Secret of Mana is an old SNES game that came out ages ago. It's one of my favorite RPGs, and also one of the first I played way back when). I had a couple of remixes and such, but I was hankering for something a little more original so I found the OST online and have been listening to that a bit recently. It's so great to get to hear all the various tunes, which bring back the fond memories of all the little areas in the game. (I played it three times so I can remember it pretty well).

Just one of the songs:

I used to have SoM on emulator, and my brother ripped all the music tracks from it in .spc format. I still listen to them every now and again. :) I still have the original cartridge of SoM sitting in a box upstairs in my room too. The battery pack has no doubt died by now though...

I never thought more of the OST than background music. Good while playing, but boring as a main event from my speakers. I prefer OCR remixes since their music can be so damn divine.

Been listening to Asriel, a rather gothic like Japanese band. Its fairly similar to like ALI Project, except nowhere near as repetitive. And I guess you can compare it to Yousei Teitoku as well.

I'm kinda drowning in their music right now, until I can recognize their songs from one another and filter out the good stuff.

Last two CDs I've been able to buy are Metallica's newest, Death Magnetic, and AC/DC's If You Want Blood You've Got It (partly because it's an AC/DC release I hadn't bought yet, and partly that they've got a new album coming in 4 days as I write this). Also got a BBC set Metallica posted on livemetallica.com. Right now I'd say the new Metallica is really good. (A load better than St. Anger, anyway.)

Oh, I've heard they're releasing something new, and I'd really like to hear it.
I'm not so keen about the new Guns 'n' Roses release, couldn't care less about Axl Pose... 8)

Today I listened to "Minami-ke" image tracks, later Kotoko, and now I have reached Halcali (damn, those two are already 20yo... time flies).

I'm not sure what to make of the new GNR myself. The way the media's gone on about it the past several years, I'm kinda happy it finally has a release date, but that's about it.

I can't really afford getting new albums, so I mostly just listen to radioplay. So far, the new Metallica album is OK, but after St. Anger, they really need to do better to get my attention. Of course, it doesn't help that I'm a HUGE fan of their Master of Puppets album so most of what they've done since then has sounded slow, repetitive and... old? Showing my age too.

Right now, I'm listening to Ocean Spray by the Manic Street Preachers. For a moment, I thought I accidentally pushed play on the Beiruit MV again! The horn section threw me. Not quite as good as the Beiruit song, but I didn't pay for it since I'm listenting to the Brit Rock channel on Accuradio.com. Internet radio is perfect for cheap bastards like myself. Between 94.9 San Diego (Alternative rock) and Accuradio, I'm OK untill I get the kids into of college and out of the house.

I usually focus on the people/groups I like the best when I go out and actually buy new albums, and even then it doesn't happen too often anymore. More often, new stuff I get is from iTunes because a lot of the time it's cheaper that way.

I personally think Death Magnetic is better than just about anything Metallica's done since the black album. (Except for maybe Garage Inc - especially disc 2, which needed to happen eventually IMO.) The new Metallica doesn't beat anything they've done up through the black album, but it's a step in the right direction.

My favorite is Ride the Lightning. "For whom the Bell tolls" has one of the greatest riffs I have ever heard. After that... the Black Album, yes, although I like ...And Justice for All lyrics better... anyway, "The Struggle within" has a nice riff also, which I remember was the "anthem" of a Wrestlemania tournament, which got me interested in the first place, back when I was 12 or 13yo and a fan of brainless entertainment.
In terms of live performance I'll choose Binge 'n' Purge.

I dunno if I've really got a favorite Metallica. There isn't anything I'd really say I hated. St. Anger, Load, and Re-Load are in no particular order my 3 least favorite for what albums I'd like least in Metallica's discography. As for live stuff...I wonder if I can get the video performances from Binge 'n' Purge on DVD... Other than that, is it rude or mean to admit the one thing about Seattle I'm honestly glad I'll never see again is at least partly because of a Metallica performance I'd been to? Can't fault the band because it was after James had famously stepped into some pyro while touring for the black album. (How could anyone be at the top of their game after that?) No, I for some reason remember hearing the King Dome was a bad venue for concerts, and Metallica and GNR didn't help the old dome's cause any. Not for me anyway.

Liked the Moore, though. Old theater. Looked old and rundown from the outside, anyway, as I remember, but great once I'd got in. Kind of stage where you'd expect a play to be performed, not Skid Row on their last tour with Bach on vocals. I've still got the ticket stub and guitar pick Hill bounced off my chest stashed in the book for that CD. Edit: Damn, I must have looked stupid when that pick bounced off my chest... ; ;

For some artists it certainly is easier to pick their bad albums rather than their good ones. I know I'm partial to Master of Puppets because it was my entry drug to metal (along with Iron Maiden- Number of the Beast). Good to hear Metallica may be back on track, so I'll at least check out their new stuff. The new single has not gotten my hopes up though.

I've never been to a metal concert before, so I cannot sympathize with you. I'd love to go to even a crappy one! My favorite concerts have not alwasy been entirely about the music. I left Anime Expo 1992 early to go buy tickets off of a scalper to see the Cure at San Jose State's football field. The music was OK, but that was my first time in a mosh pit, so it was lots of fun.

Emerald Sword by Rhapsody of Fire. My new theme song. :gatsu:

I have been listening to some of their other songs and they were pretty good, but Emerald Sword is definitely their best one IMHO. I have been listening to Nightwish as well. So yeah, I'm pretty much becoming a power metal junkie. Does anyone know of any other great power metal bands that are worth listening to? I like to expand my tastes.
