I'm posting is to ask a very simple question. I know I've asked this before but I can't find the post. How do you change the size an avatar if you didn't make it yourself?

I have a lot of avatars but all of them are to big, some would even make good wall papers. I'm a complete idoit with computers so any help offered I would be extremely thankful.

The way to do it in paint: Open your image with it, on the top bar go to image, Stretch/Skew, then change the percent on stretch. Paint sucks though, so you can't enter the pixels you want to change it to.

I contradict. I doubt this is only in the German version, but below "stretch" I have an option labelled "attributes" or something (I don't know the English labelling) and there I can choose what size I want the pic, be it cm, inch or pixels. :!:

That doesn't resize the image, it crops it.

Well, with a calculator, you can get pretty close to your desired pixel size anyway. Just do some simple math.

You could always mess with photoshop but well.... I think photoshop is excessive for a tiny ass 150x150 to 100x100 resize. But then when paint saves jpegs... there goes every bit of detail.

There are free image-editing programs you can use for this such as GIMP. Not as fully featured as something like Photoshop, but for your purposes it will be just fine.

Okay thanks, only problem is I don't know if I have photoshop, and my images are too big. And others i'd like to blow up to wallpaper size without to much distortion. I know impossible but thought I'd ask.

Hm... "attributes" crop the crap alright, damn my lack of insight. My bad.
Okay, but you can still use the stretching device... with trial and error you'll be able to get a good result after a short while. I'd say the inconvenience is endurable.

An avatar simply doesn't have enough pixels to look good when blown up to a standard-sized desktop. You're best bet is to search Google images to for a similar picture that's a little larger. Oh and Photoshop is something you have to install separately, it doesn't come with Windows. It also costs money. However, there is this little program call The GIMP, and its free to use.
