OK, I have to admit that pirating Disneyland is pretty darned impressive. I wonder how Disney's lawyers are going to react to this.

I love this part:

"Some have claimed that the park is illegally copying Disney’s Minnie Mouse. However, the park’s operators have insisted that the character on the right is not a mouse. It is a cat with very large ears!"

lol!

Eh, Disney isn't going to do anything. Not to mention I'm not sure if Chinese copyright laws would apply in this case.

I doubt any legal action will have any bearing on this matter. This is a state-run amusement park, i.e. China itself is ignoring its own copyright laws.

Can't they just go to Hong Kong Disneyland?

It seems that the lawmakers have started to crack heads behind the scenes.

All Chinese are traders at heart.
They know very well that all the big economies on the globe want a piece of their gigantic market potential, so they keep trying the limits. If anyone says he doesn't like that they'll take a babystep back and make business for him harder.

Simple lack of creativity from close-minded people.

Disneyland is so past, why bother copying it now? I mean, Japan have amuzement parks all over the place and none (except the official Disneyland Japan) even try to copy Disney. I live in Brazil and we have big theme parks that also don't even get close to it, nobody actually cares.

People who want to go to Disneyland don't go there because it's "a Disneyland", but because it's "THE Disneyland". Copies would therefore be meaningless. Even if there was a copy (official or not) Disneyland next door, I would still be interested in going to visit the real thing anyway (btw I already went =p).

What's next? "Okahibara is too far, so visit our Chinese version?" ... "Eifel Tower is too far, so visit our paper-mache version?" ...

borderline stupid IMHO. Actually, I think this would work even contrary: people who visit it and know there is a real Disneyland would actually get a even bigger desire to see the real thing from these lousy copies. I know I would, and if I can't, I would choose to go to an amuzement park that does not reminds me of Disneyland so I don't get this urge =p

Yes, Akihabara is correct. For more info, check out the Wikipedia page. One of my goals in life is to go there just so I can play with all of the cellphones that will undoubtedly blow my mind.
