Yeah really, nobody was talking about an area for something like "BRS members only".
We want this to be a community - which you are part of by actively participating - and not introduce new forms of apartheit.

Oh, I have remembered something nice: Birthdays!
We had the option of entering our birthdays into our profiles and the board would automatically announce birthdays which we "celebrated" in The Birthday Thread. Nothing big, but it was a lovely feature.
Hm... furthermore... wouldn't this allow excluding minors from the adult sections? 8)
Which lacks an age confirmation anyway. :?

Ya, I will look into adding birthdays. However, making so that adult sections are only accessible by people 18 and over wouldn't work for the simple fact of people just lying about their ages. Just like they do everywhere else. Not to mention I would have to restrict viewing those areas to members only, which is something I really only want for the contests area, since I want that to benefit members of the forum.

That's right, but in that case it cannot be helped, not our fault, not your business.
But it might be (y)our business though when some parent person complains that you allow his/her 13yo to look into dirty things just like that without age verification. In one case the 13yo lied and in the other case it seems like you give a damn about protecting kids.
Just a suggestion.

If a kid lies about their age its not your problem anymore as far as i've understood. You can't really go around checking everyone to see if they're really the age their saying, you just have to trust them. once the person on the other end breaks that link of trust it's not you that broke it and therefore you can not be held accountable.

sorry if its a bit mumbled, its late, can't sleep and worried/annoyed at real life friends.

We might need a "Report this post" button for the SPAMs.

I check for spam posts every time I visit the site. It isn't really necessary for anyone to contact me about it, as I will see them as soon as I visit. The best thing to do it just ignore them if you see them, someone will take care of it soon enough. I will look into getting a Report this Post button though, just for the usefulness of it in an overall view, not just looking at it from the view of spam reporting.

Eh on the age thing I can understand putting age limits and such on porn and stuff. But let's face it this is the internet, if a kid really wants to find porn they'll lie and unless your contacted by the cops there's no way for you to know. So eh do whatever you want it's not going to make much a difference.

As for the spam button, I agree with Acmurphy it's not needed just another feature that make the site load slower.

I received a mail from Animetric last week (found it only today), telling me that about this thread:
Welcome to the New Animetric Forum
"This topic has received a reply since your last visit."
But in fact the latest entry so far was written by me exactly one month before I received the mail.

This is no critique, I'm just confused.
Could it be that someone edited his entry recently and the system thus sent me a message?

On second thought:
I chose to "unwatch the topic" and I was led to the thread given above.
If I, after that, choose to read the thread, I am told that it does not exist anymore.

:?:

It is possible that someone edited their post and thats why you got the e-mail since you were watching it. If they didn't, I have no idea why you got an e-mail.

That is rather odd, I just went and watched it, then unwatched it, click continue on to read the thread and it worked fine. Tried it twice actually. So I am not sure, maybe it was just a one time error or something.

I am always worried about problems occurring from my addition of over 10 mods to the site, which could end up conflicting with each other. Luckily, their doesn't seem to be anything widespread so far.

Maybe your account is just "special," don't get PM notifications, random e-mails, threads that do exist but tell you they don't.

Try watching it and unwatching it again and see if you have the same problem.

Today Amex_Yohko sent me a PM and, you won't believe it, I received a mail at my chosen account!
That problem seems to be solved, but why it didn't work but does now is still a mystery. :?:

You know, one of the things I'm really missing that we had from the old forums was a sort of mod that let you see all the active members online at the moment and see where they were browsing. when you are having a long day and are bored out of your mind i allways found it interesting to see if anyone was going to reply to anything soon.

You're right... we can check online members on the home page, but there's no further information.
BRS we could see what forum they were just browsing or posting in, and I found that kinda cool.

I will look into that as well as the birthday stuff, those are the two mods that I currently have to try and install one of these days.

I just want to congratulate Aaron for reviving the forum. In between working, writing, tutoring my kids, and doing a million other things, I really don't think I would have been able to keep everything alive.

Sorry for not having a member database and all that to help you guys locate old members. I had this notion that I'd be maintaining animetric.com forever but people change and I guess my interests have also evolved over time. I have not watched anime or played bishoujo games for a very long time now and I don't miss it.

Thanks.

You already said this several times, it's okay, be at ease, and even if somebody could not accept your reasons (no need to defend yourself!), our lives would still go on like weeds that always reappear after the winter. :D
