Reviewer: Rowena Lim Lei (1.17.2001) Synopsis: Review: New characters are introduced and added to the existing pool -- there's Qawoor, the new water priestess (yet another additional gal attracted to our dear Makoto), and Parnasse, Alielle's girl-crazy brother. Plot-wise, it's typical El Hazard. You get dimensional travel, magic, action, romance, humor, and some degree of eroticism. Pacing is good, and there are a lot of moments that'll tickle your funny bone. Quite a bit of suggestive scenes and dialogue are present (especially where the lesbian characters are concerned). Although still not as great as El Hazard 1, El Hazard: The Alternative World is markedly more entertaining than El Hazard 2. The art and animation are excellent, and I didn't find anything amiss in the visuals. Needless to say, the English dubbing is exceptional (as you basically have the same group of voices from the past El Hazards). Since there's nothing really wrong with this series, you may be wondering why I didn't give it a perfect rating. Well, it's just that I find the dimensional travel / ultimate weapon storyline redundant and overused throughout all the El Hazard series that have been released. I can't help but feel all the El Hazards that followed the original are but rehashes of the same basic theme... nicely done as they are.
