Dance Till Tomorrow

Synopsis:
Suekichi's priority has always been his work as the producer of an amateur theater group. The fact that he's deeply infatuated with the group's leader, Ms. Shimomura, also helps. Just as Suekichi makes up his mind to quit school for his craft, his great-grandfather dies and leaves him with a $4.5 million inheritance. But its not coming without strings attached. Suekichi can only collect his inheritance IF he graduates from college, gets married, and establishes a career. To top it all off, a mysterious girl named Aya suddenly comes into Suekichi's life. He suspects she's only after the money, but how can he resist Aya's seductive charms?

Review:
Dance Till Tomorrow's plot can be described as Hollywood movie material, and I don't mean that negatively. The story is quite remarkable, and is something you can make a film of. But while a solid concept is there, but the execution is severely lacking.

For starters, Dance Till Tomorrow could have used more wit and humor. Sure, there are comical stuff but don't expect anything extraordinarily funny. Obviously aimed at mature readers, Dance Till Tomorrow is loaded with erotic content and imagery (what would you make of a banana-patterned blouse on Aya?). Sex is dealt with a certain frankness that makes it seem very natural and even humorous. Sexual scenes are tastefully done and not out of place in the flow of the story.

My major qualm about Dance Till Tomorrow is the art. While it does present a certain degree of realism (especially where anatomical proportions are concerned), the art falls below average compared to other manga titles. In some panels, things look okay. But in others, the characters' faces look anywhere from slightly or severely assymetrical to downright deformed. Better art and consistency would've really done wonders for Dance Till Tomorrow. This series could've been a real winner, but as it is, it's just a notch above average.

Miscellanies:
Dance Till Tomorrow was first serialized in 1989. Naoki Yamamoto is a guy. Also, the actual manga is uncensored.
