Synopsis:
When Takeru is caught raiding the palace kitchen and royal pantry, he is sentenced to be banished from the kingdom of Strawberry Fields. But a girl named Luna objects, stating that Takeru is the hero depicted in the prophecy. And so Takeru finds himself on a mission to retrieve the goddess' enchanted jewels and rescue the kingdom's female warriors from the Dragon Knights... but more than anything, Takeru just wants to get his hands (and camera lens) on the pretty ladies!

Review:
Light and fairly amusing, Dragon Knight is an RPG-style hentai anime based on a Japanese PC game series of the same title. Takeru is the usual lecherous-but-heroic type, but he's surprisingly very good with a sword. He comes armed with a camera as well -- so that he can take pictures of the ladies he's supposed to rescue while they are in compromising positions.

Fighting unchallenging enemies, retrieving jewels, and releasing girls from bondage are just about all there is to it in terms of plot. Things get repetitive after a couple of rounds, and it's more or less the same drill up to the point when Takeru finally reaches the head honcho. Characterization is weak. Takeru is the only one with a distinct personality, and to some extent, Luna... everybody else is nondescript.

The art and animation appear rather dated but are generally okay. The character designs are a mixed bag. The girls are attractive enough (but several of them look alike), Takeru looks generic (bearing a resemblance to Dragon Pink's Santa), and the monsters / enemies aren't the kind that anyone would take seriously. The adult content is on the mild side, and the most you'll see are boobs and legs. I should also mention that no real sexual act is performed at any time, despite Dragon Knight's hentai classification. Overall, Dragon Knight is an unexceptional title with its lackluster plot and bland characters. There's not much sexual content for hentai fans to boot. It's average fare at best, but it does offer some brief flashes of humor along the way.

Miscellanies:
The bishoujo RPG Dragon Knight III was released as "Knights of Xentar" in the US, but it's out-of-print now.
