Reviewer: Rowena Lim Lei Synopsis: Review: More than anything, Boys Be can be likened to a scrapbook -- for it is a collection of memoirs and experiences (mostly about love) of several young people, set against the changing of the seasons. Childhood friends Kyoichi and Chiharu lead the cast as the couple in transition. Are they to remain in the comfortable confines of friendship or are they ready for something deeper and more meaningful? While we keep tabs on Kyoichi and Chiharu's relationship, we are introduced to their friends -- all of whom have love stories of their own. Boys Be isn't a continuing romantic saga however, as each episode is fairly self-contained. Pacing is generally relaxed, and a good balance of both humorous and touching moments are interjected here and there. Boys Be's digitally rendered visuals (ala "Love Hina") are clean, crisp, and vibrant. I'm nitpicking here but I noticed some minor inconsistencies in the way the characters are drawn. Like in one scene a character looks perfect, then in the next scene his/her face suddenly looks strangely asymmetric. It's quite tolerable and not all that bothersome though. Given its romantic nature and nostalgic air, Boys Be's general tone is somewhere along the lines of the classic series "Kimagure Orange Road". Watching Boys Be reminded me of the days when I used to read teeny bopper romance novels. I'm not putting Boys Be on the same level as those books, but what this series has to offer isn't too far off -- a chockfull of romantic encounters (albeit a lot better done). If you're ready and willing to take an emotional trip down memory lane, then by all means pick this one up. Miscellanies: Screenshots courtesy
