Synopsis: When Yusuke was a child, he saw his mother having sex with another man. Since then, Yusuke has considered women as untrustworthy creatures who exist only for men's sexual enjoyment. Yusuke is a teenager now. His father has remarried, and his stepmother is Misako, a curvaceous beauty who's eager to take care of Yusuke as a real mother would. But Yusuke has other plans for Misako...
Review: As most of you know (or don't know), most hentai anime are based on bishoujo games. Sometimes, if we're lucky, we get to play the game and watch the anime in English. Stepmother's Sin is one of those rare occasions where we can actually play the game, watch the anime, and compare the two. I played the game roughly about a year ago, and now it's time to see how the anime version fares.
Stepmother's Sin starts off with some steamy sex scenes between Misako and Yusuke's father. Yusuke somehow spies on them doing it and gets all horny. He then proceeds to plan how he can get Misako, all the while conferring and screwing around with a girl named Mio. In this series, Mio is just Mio, always around when Yusuke needs a good lay. In the game however, Mio is Yusuke's catty and crafty cousin who plays an integral part in Yusuke's plans. Yusuke makes up his mind to seduce Misako, but his purpose in doing so is not really made clear. Is it to prove that women are the whores that he thinks they are? Or is it to exact revenge on his mother? I couldn't really tell because Stepmother's Sin is about 85% sex and 15% dialogue, and 95% of what little dialogue there is is comprised of the characters' exclamations of pleasure. Of course, let's not forget the virginal Shiina, Misako's daughter and Yusuke's stepsister. Yusuke's going to make sure Shiina receives the full treatment too. And so Yusuke goes around fucking Mio, Misako, and Shiina (although most of the time it's Misako) until we eventually get to the rather dark and abrupt ending, which is as confusing as the rest of the story.
The art and animation are somewhat above average at best. Character designs are generic, which is a far departure from the game version's unique illustration style. Sex scenes are abundant and very graphically depicted, but cheesy visual effects dull the impact of some scenes. For most part it's just regular man-woman stuff, but there's a little bit of bondage thrown in for good measure. The English dubbing is so-so. Almost everyone speaks unnaturally; the only consolation being at least you can understand what they are all saying. I actually felt like laughing whenever Yusuke would say "oh mom! mom!" during his sex scenes with Misako.
Stepmother's Sin takes a well-written bishoujo game and turns it into utter nonsense. I can't even tell which Gibo game path it's based on. Characterization is thrown out the window, while interactions and relations cease to exist. I can't even begin to describe how inferior the anime version is compared to its game counterpart. As a standalone hentai title however, Stepmother's Sin definitely delivers the perversion it promises.
Miscellanies: Stepmother's Sin consists of two half-hour episodes.
