Synopsis:
Yoshijiru Saku just transferred to Kouka Academy, after getting kicked out of his old school.   He’s the newest member of class 2-B and his delinquent status fits right into this group of losers, rejects and aliens. He’s started off on the wrong foot though, for after beating up some bullies he get not only himself but all of class 2-B up for expulsion. His only chance for redemption is to rally the class together and beat the Theater club in a play. But class 2-B is neither interested in the play nor in helping him out. His only hope resides in Aoi Mirai, the leader of class 2-B and his partner in crime. Will they be able to pull class 2-B together in time for the competition, or will the Theater club win out and finally rid the school of this class of abominations?

Review:
Maple Colors is your typical hentai comedy, featuring awkward sexual situations, ditzy women who can’t help but end up in compromising situations, and a feisty female lead that scorns the main antagonist who really wants to sleep with her. These are tried and true scenarios, and while not wholly unfunny, they are in no way original. The “Oh no, the teacher fell and when I caught her I grabbed her breast” type of situations are only amusing for so long. Sadly, the puns don’t get much better than that.

Initially focusing on the exploits of Yoshijiru Saku and Aoi Mirai as they decide to exercise their own sense of rough justice on a number of bullies, things quickly take a turn for the sex. Yoshijiru’s calm, cool and badass self is apparently what every woman wants, and he’s more than willing to service their desire for a piece of him. Now, in-between these random sexual encounters spread across the first episode, the main conflict is established as well as Yoshijiru’s burgeoning relationship with Aoi. She assumes the role of the fiery female, who’s easily infuriated, but soft and caring on the inside. The perfect yin to his yang, if you will. This setup allows the second episode to go into full sex swing. And while Yoshijiru spends most of his time “enticing” female members of class 2-B to join his play, he still has time to build an actual relationship with Aoi, who he’s working on the content portion of the play with. This is one of the more positive aspects of the release, and is also the saddest victim of Maple Colors’ biggest pitfall; its complete lack of an ending. As a result, the story has absolutely no closure, the female lead never gets in on any of the action, and all major plot points are left unfinished. With only two episodes, this really kills the story portion of the release, leaving just the comedy, sex, and technical’s to hold the whole thing together. Not an easy and especially not a preferable feat for a show to have to try and pull off.

The sex is very graphic, covering the full gambit of tame sex acts. The sex scenes are fairly well done, almost always with a new partner to vary things up, even if the same basic sex is reoccurring. An additional plus here is that the characters themselves are pretty cute, and coupled with some above average animation makes Maple Colors easy on the eyes. The English dub is sadly substandard however, while the Japanese language track should be fine for anyone, especially by comparison.

Maple Colors winds up a hit-or-miss comedy with all the trappings of what could have been an above average hentai title. And even though the sex is enjoyable and the other technical aspects present to satisfying degrees, the story offered is greatly hindered by an inconclusive ending. This makes it good for little more than a single watch.

Miscellaneous:
Unfortunately the second episode was finished over 2 years ago, so the likelihood they will finish Maple Colors off is very slim.
