Review:
Akihito Hayasaka’s childhood was almost ruined when his little sister was killed at the hands of a passing car. Luckily for him his quick thinking parents came to the rescue, immediately adopting Umi, a new little sister for Akihito to fill the inevitable void in his heart. Years later they’re now attending the same school, but things have grown complicated between them. Whereas Akihito still views her as his adorable little sister, or so he thinks, she doesn’t just see him as her older brother anymore. With her feelings ever present, Umi finds herself avoiding her brother in an effort to hide her feelings, all while Akihito’s trying to figure out just what’s going on with her, sexing up every girl on campus in order to find out that information. Will these two ever realize their mutual feelings, or is Akihito just going to have sex with the whole school? Well, knowing these hentai titles, it’s safe to assume both.

Having been awoken by his sister, yet again, Akihito can’t help but make an off the cuff quip about how, if they were lovers, he would surely have done all sorts of perverted things to her by now. And that’s where it all begins as she runs away, seemingly upset at his remark, leaving poor Akihito to wonder what the heck just happened. But don’t feel too bad for him yet; even though he may wonder just why that upset her, his search for the truth is about to get him more girls than you can shake a stick at. First he’s off to see Kisaya, his Kendo sensei and secret lover who he confides in for advice as much as he does for pleasure. After that fails to garner any answers he tries to track down one of Umi’s friends to find out what’s up and, well, as luck would have it she’ll only tell him if he has sex with her. And so it goes as this lucky SOB sexes up every girl in the school on his quest to figure out just what’s upset Umi and what he can do to make it right. I’m not sure that, when it gets back to her that her brother has been sleeping with literally everyone, she’ll be all that comforted by the unique way he shows he cares though. Or maybe these two will confess their feelings for one another, ignoring Akihito’s past indiscretions, and happy days of perverted morning acts will ensue.

At least it’s happy days for them anyway. Between his rummaging through a horde of uninteresting girls to find out what’s up with his sister and a mess of sex scenes without any real teeth, there isn’t much to make Harukoi Otome stand out amongst the crowd. It has a slick look about it, with vibrant colors and beautiful character designs, but as soon as you encounter the continual pan shots it becomes evident where the corners were cut. The censoring doesn’t help matters, but honestly, there are so many instances of crafty camera angles that hide everything going on that the censoring almost becomes a mute point. So don’t look for it being licensed in the US to save the sex scenes, they are bland whatever way you slice them.

Harukoi Otome’s a simple story of siblings who aren’t related falling in love, a staple of hentai titles, but they really needed to do more than these half covered sex scenes that are neither interesting nor exciting to watch. Too much here is tried and true boring to make it anything you should actively search out.

Miscellaneous:
Harukoi Otome has not been licensed in the US.
