Synopsis:
The Gloria family has long been one of the wealthiest and most prominent empires in Boston. When top students Kira and Beowulf are offered tutoring jobs at the Gloria estate, the two young men are more than willing to oblige. Beowulf is immediately attracted to the icy beauty Eterna Gloria, eldest daughter of the Gloria family. Eterna is the only daughter who's not adopted to boot. Beowulf wastes no time in pursuing Eterna, and Kira is left in charge of Eterna's four sisters -- Celia, Naomi, Charm, and Mary. But there have already been several attempts at the Glorias' lives since Kira and Beowulf started... and the matriarch Ms. Michelle Gloria seems to be keeping a very big secret...!

Review:
Based on a bishoujo game of the same title, GLO*RI*A is actually the family name of a clan comprised mostly of beautiful ladies. Don't ask me, I also have no idea why it's syllabicated that way... it just is.

Anyhow, GLO*RI*A kicks off with a tutoring proposal for Kira and Beowulf. The job seems perfect -- the two guys get to live in a posh mansion, eat gourmet meals, and have a fleet of servants at their disposal. Beowulf puts himself in charge of Eterna, and Kira finds his hands full with everybody else -- Celia goes around dressed as a maid, taking care of Kira; Naomi is always drunk; Charm is perpetually locked up in her room with a bunch of computers; Mary is as naive as a small child... Juggling four pupils is the least of Kira's concerns however, as he soon finds out. Someone wants to eradicate the Gloria family, and Kira finds himself caught in the middle of murder attempts and hostile takeovers.

The premises of the story reminded me of C's Ware's other bishoujo game, "Fatal Relations". There are five pretty sisters and a hot mother. The setting is a mansion. There are housemaids who serve sex. GLO*RI*A and FR share a lot of similarities, even though the plots are not at all the same. I did not have a hard time following the GLO*RI*A's story. In fact, I found the resolution overly simplistic... and after all the trouble everybody went through! The plot lacks tightness and detail. Things are just too loosely woven to generate any excitement, and each volume generally wastes a lot of time thanks to poor development. There are also a lot of superfluous characters who are little more than set decorations.

The art and animation are quite good. The characters and backgrounds are rendered nicely. Sexually speaking, I was surprised to find that GLO*RI*A the anime doesn't go anywhere near the level of the ultra-explicit b-game "Fatal Relations" (both are from C's Ware after all). The most you'll see here are breasts and behinds. The lower genital areas are hidden from view, although you see the characters having intercourse. Overall, I'd say GLO*RI*A is average fare. It's not good, but it's also not bad. I don't suggest coughing up almost $27 for each volume though... you may be better off just playing the game -- since it has around 40+ possible endings and more graphic H scenes. It costs less than all the tapes to boot.

Miscellanies:
Play the game.
