Slayers Return

For our dynamic duo Lina Inverse and Nahga the Serpent, what starts out as a simple task of saving a small village from some baddies suddenly turns into something quite unmanageable. An invulnerable killing machine has been unearthed, and it's not affected by any type of magic! Lina and Nahga must think of something quickly, before this behemoth pulverizes everything in its path.
I must say, I've already seen two Slayers movies ("Slayers Perfect" being the first) and none of them can even begin to compare with the TV series.
Anyhow, Lina and Nahga once again team up for another (mis)adventure in this movie. They're only supposed to rescue some villagers from a couple of dorky bad guys and then collect their reward, but things don't go as planned. Lina and Nahga get themselves in a jam, the usual chaos ensues, and things are fine and dandy again by the end of the day. Nothing really special in terms of plot, but admittedly, there are more humorous parts here compared to "Slayers Perfect". Still not as funny as the hijinks you see in the TV series, but worth a chuckle or two.
Characterization is so-so. Neither Lina nor Nahga are portrayed with much depth, and the new characters introduced don't make much of an impact. There are some pretty neat battle sequences though, and both Lina and Nahga get to strut their magical stuff. The art and animation are on the average side. Nothing great, but nothing crappy either. You'd expect better visuals from a motion picture release, but as it stands, the TV series proves superior in this aspect as well.
Slayers Return isn't bad, and it's actually more watchable than a lot of what's out there... but it's certainly not a must-see. I'd recommend it only if you can't get enough of Lina Inverse... or the extremely well-endowed Nahga, for that matter.
