Sailor Moon SuperS Movie: Black Dream Hole
Reviewer: Rowena Lim Lei 12/31/1999

Synopsis:
Chibi Usa finds a new friend in the person of a mysterious boy named Peruru. Meanwhile, children around the world are disappearing nightly. The plot thickens as Chibi Usa herself is whisked away from the sailor soldiers. Where could the children be? And what is Peruru's connection to all this?

Review:
Sailormoon SuperS the Movie has a very superficial, fairy tale-ish plot. It's like the Pied Piper meets the Sailor Soldiers. Flute-toting weirdoes enchant hordes of kids and take them away to never-never land... or someplace like that. As always, the perennial evil boss character is present. Our heroines have to get the kiddies back and defeat the boss. I can summarize the whole of Sailormoon SuperS the Movie in like 3-5 sentences.

Art and animation-wise, this movie is tops. Impressive attack sequences, stunning transformations, and gorgeous character renditions... this film is definitely full of eye-candy. Everyone is at their best here. This is also your chance to see all of the sailor soldiers' special and most powerful attacks. The intro sequence is a great bonus too. It consists of home-movie type scenes featuring Usagi and friends as toddlers, something which I found to be very cute and insightful. Like the Sailormoon S Movie before this, all the sailor soldiers except for Sailorsaturn and the Starlights are included in the cast.

Overall, the Sailormoon SuperS Movie is an average film with awesome visuals and a few neat extras. I would have gladly given it a higher rating had the plot been more imaginative.

Miscellanies:
I'll go nuts listening to "3 o' clock Fairy" over and over again.
